Movie Quiz

1. What movie have you seen the most times in the theater? How many times?
I'm not positive on the numbers, but I think I've seen Forbidden Zone seven times in the theater, and Showgirls a mere six times (though I've seen Showgirls more times total). But as for what I saw the most times during it's original release, I think there are a few that I saw three times. I can't actually think of any titles right now. I think I saw Black and White (the James Toback movie) three times for some reason. I've seen WALL-E twice now, and will probably see it again before it leaves. Oh, also I've seen The Warriors four times in the theater, even though I don't really love that movie. The first time was because I had never seen it, the second time somebody dragged me to it, and the other two times I think it was in the middle of triple features or something.

2. What was the last movie you walked out of in the theater?
The only movie I've ever walked out of in my post-childhood life is Gone With the Wind. Last week, I almost left Lawrence of Arabia during the intermission, and I basically should've.

3. What is the first movie you remember seeing in a theater?
I don't have a good memory for this kind of thing. The earliest movie I could come up with that I definitely remember seeing in the theater is Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare in '91. And also Captain EO at Disneyland. I guess 3D really impressed me. And I know for sure I saw Masters of the Universe in '87, and I actually do have kind of a vague memory of that (I would've been 5).

4. What is your favorite movie soundtrack?
I've been listening to a lot of Italian horror scores lately, and they are pretty amazing. I think I like Cannibal Holocaust and The Beyond the best. I always like David Lynch's soundtracks, too. Blue Velvet is probably my favorite of those. I think it's Badalamenti's best score, and all the songs are really perfect, too. Also, the Clockwork Orange soundtrack.

5. Have you ever dressed up as a movie character for Halloween? If so, who?
I was Joshua from Troll 2 a couple years ago. And when I was a kid, I dressed up as Jason Voorhees in drag, but it was before I had even seen the Friday the 13th movies. I don't think I even knew Jason's name, I just knew the hockey mask was associated with a serial killer.

6. What was the first R-rated movie you ever saw? Were you allowed or did you sneak?
I have no idea. I'm sure I was allowed, though. I do remember that my first NC-17 movie was Bad Lieutenant.

7. Star Wars (orig. trilogy) or Lord of the Rings?
Star Wars.

8. Pacino or DeNiro?
DeNiro is amazing in Taxi Driver and King of Comedy, and I guess some other movies too, but Pacino is more consistently amazing or at least entertaining.

9. Titanic...did it suck or was it great?
I hated it at the time. I probably wouldn't be as harsh about it now.

10. What's your take on Cassavetes?
A Woman Under the Influence is incredible, everything else is shit.

11. Favorite John Hughes character?
Anthony Michael Hall's character in all the ones he was in. Duckie in Pretty in Pink. Macauly in Home Alone.

12. What movie gives you a boner (or makes you tingle)?
Every Jean Rollin movie. His movies give me actual erections, and no other non-porn movies ever do that.

13. What movie always makes you cry like the big puss you are?
Sarah T. - Portrait of a Teenage Alcoholic. It doesn't always, but it did the first time I saw it. Also, I cried twice during WALL-E on my second viewing.

14. What's the furthest you've ever gotten in a movie theater? (i.e, second base...)
Holding hands. I'm there to watch the fucking movie.

15. Speaking of sports metaphors, what's your favorite sports movie?
Dream to Believe. The Cheerleaders, Revenge of the Cheerleaders, Bring It On: All Or Nothing, Sugar & Spice, Bring It On, The Swinging Cheerleaders, Roller Boogie, Rad, Thrashin', The Last Boyscout, Talladega Nights, Fast and the Furious (all), White Men Can't Jump, Rocky (all), Over the Top, She's the Man.

16. Favorite
(a)... teen movie?

Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Superbad, Clueless, most of the sports movies I listed above, The Last American Virgin, Midnight Madness, New York Minute, Girls Just Want to Have Fun, Idle Hands, Just One of the Guys, Teen Witch, Sydney White, Cry-Baby, River's Edge, Carrie.

(b)...Quentin Tarantino movie?
Reservoir Dogs, I think. But Pulp Fiction is close. They're all good, though, aside from the first half of Death Proof.

(c)...Bill Murray movie?
Ghost Busters, Coffee and Cigarettes, Ed Wood, Kingpin, Rushmore.

(d)...romantic comedy?
Visitor Q, Music and Lyrics, 27 Dresses, Polyester, Killer Condom, Tromeo & Juliet.

(e)...gangster movie?
Scarface, either version. The Departed. I haven't seen Goodfellas in years and years, I hear it's good.

(f)...horror movie?
Funny Games, Troll 2, Sleepaway Camp, A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, Re-Animator, Cabin Fever, Night of the Creeps, Alice Sweet Alice, Braindead/Dead Alive, The Hills Have Eyes (2006), Silent Night Deadly Night, The Ring, Return of the Living Dead, Imprint.

(g)...made for TV movie?
Sarah T. - Portrait of a Teenage Alcoholic, Riding the Bus with My Sister, Born Innocent, The Wave, Bad Ronald, Diary of a Teenage Hitchhiker.

(h)...director?
Todd Solondz, John Waters, Doris Wishman, Jack Hill, Lucio Fulci, David Lynch, Paul Verhoeven, Dario Argento, Jean Rollin, David Cronenberg, Larry Clark, Matthew Bright, Takashi Miike, Shinya Tsukamoto, Stuart Gordon, Alexandre Aja, Paul Morrissey, Lukas Moodysson, Coen Brothers, Paul Thomas Anderson, Wes Anderson, Russ Meyer, Penelope Spheeris. I could pretty much go on forever.

(i)...drug movie?
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Trainspotting.

17. What movie have you seen already but will never, ever, ever watch again?
Probably most of them. Is this trying to ask which movies I hate? Why is it worded like that? Like, nothing could ever get me to sit through Lawrence of Arabia again, but it was far from being the worst movie ever. Here are a few that I actually hate: Faces, A Walk to Remember, 300, The Wind That Shakes the Barley, L'Avventura, Amarcord, 8 1/2, Playtime, History of the World: Part 1, Spaceballs, The Producers.

18. What movie are you embarrassed to really like?
There aren't any. I only like good movies.

19. What movie should be remade asap?
I don't know. I have no problem with remakes, but I can't think of anything that like needs to be remade. I'm looking forward to Aja's 3D Piranha remake.

20. What the F happened to (insert answer)? He used to be so damn funny!
Your capital F fucking face.

21. For the love of everything that's sacred, please someone stop (insert answer) from making another movie!
Antonioni, Fellini, and Tati are all dead already.

22. What movie do all your friends love but you think is whatevs?
There isn't anything.

23. What movie do you love but all your friends think is whatevs?
I have really good taste, so this never really happens.
Ok, I actually did try to think of something, but all my friends have completely different tastes in movies, so this and the last question were impossible. If someone didn't love Showgirls, though, I would have a really hard time being friends with them. It's kinda like belief in God; no matter how irrational it may seem to judge someone on it, I just can't manage to respect it.

24. If you could hump/date/marry any movie character, who would it be?
Rainbeaux Smith's Cinderella. Any of her characters really, but that one has a "snapping pussy". I don't really understand what that means, but the guy she fucks in the movie seems to like it a lot. I'd also like to marry Deputy Winston from Cabin Fever.

25. Best movie ever?
Come on. Be serious.

26. Book you wish would be made into a movie, and who would direct it?
I'd like to see Irvine Welsh's Filth finally become a movie. I don't know who could direct it. David Lynch, Mary Harron, Oliver Stone, Stuart Gordon, Ruggero Deodato? They're making Youth in Revolt right now, and that's good I guess. Though as much as I love Michael Cera, they should probably have someone younger and less attractive in the lead. And Todd Solondz should be directing it. Or actually Amy Heckerling would be fucking perfect.
