Movie blog Sergio Leone and the Infield Fly Rule put up another baffling movie quiz that makes me feel like a cine-moron. It's from like two months ago, but I just saw it. Here are my answers.
1) William Demarest or Broderick Crawford?
I don't know either of them. I've apparently seen Demarest in more movies, but Crawford looks more familiar, so I assume that means he's more talented.
2) What movies improve when seen in a state of altered consciousness?
None of them.
3) Favorite studio or production company logo?
Can't really think of anything great. I like this one:
4) Celeste Holm or Joan Blondell?
Joan Blondell because I've heard of her.
5) What is the most overrated "classic" film?
Most overrated I guess would go to Citizen Kane since it's always #1 on any list of "classics." It's been too long since I've seen it, though. Someday I will rewatch it and love it, probably. I've seen Lawrence of Arabia in the last few years, and that is a bad movie.
6) What movie do you know for sure you saw, but have no memory of seeing?
There are lots of movies I don't remember anything about, but I still have the memory of sitting down to watch them, so I don't know, I can't think of anything. How would I even know?
7) Favorite Hammer Film?
I've only seen Horror of Dracula and Curse of Frankenstein. I liked Frankenstein slightly more.
8) Gregory Itzin or Joe Pantoliano?
Itzin gets points for being on 24, but other than that, all I know him from is 5 second roles in Teen Wolf and Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas. Pantoliano is in tons of shit, and always great.
9) Create a double feature with two different movies with the same title. No remakes.
I was thinking of The Uninvited because there are a billion movies with that title, but the only one I really like is the '88 one about a killer cat. Russ Meyer's Up! with Pixar's Up would be good. Road House (1948) with Road House (1989). I haven't seen the '48 one, but Ida Lupino and Richard Widmark are both in it, so it has to be good.
10) Akiko Wakabayashi or Mie Hama?
Don't know.
11) Can you think of a (non-porn) movie that informed you of the existence of a sexual act you had not known of prior?
"Shrimping" from Pink Flamingos. They never call it that in the movie, but Waters says that's what toe-sucking is called.
12) Can you think of a black & white movie that might actually improve if it was in color?
I haven't watched it yet, but I just downloaded the colorized version of Forbidden Zone, which I guess was Richard Elfman's original intention. I don't know if it'll be "improved" but I'm looking forward to watching it.
13) Favorite Pedro Almodovar Film?
Pepi, Luci, Bom.
14) Kurt Raab or Udo Kier?
I'm not even gonna bother looking up Kurt Raab. Udo Kier over just about anyone.
15) Worst main title song?
The whole idea of a main title song is kind of amazing to me, and I honestly can't even conceive of a bad one existing.
16) Last movie you saw in a theater? On DVD, Blu-ray or other interesting location/format?
In the theater, The Secret of Kells. It was boring. Earlier that day, I saw Trash Humpers, which was much better. The last thing I watched at home was Bullies on DVD, which was from the director of Dream to Believe and also featured Olivia D'Abo, and it was really good. And I also rewatched some of the Richard Kern shorts I remembered liking because I'm trying to make my list of the Top 100 '80s Movies.
17) Favorite movie reference within a Woody Allen movie?
I think he probably references movies I don't really care about, so I don't even catch them.
18) Mary Astor or Claudette Colbert?
Claudette Colbert.
19) Favorite trailer (provide YouTube link if possible)?
Just about any exploitation trailer.
20) Oddest double bill you either saw or saw listed in a theater?
True Grit and A.I. at the New Beverly earlier this year was pretty random. When I was a kid, I saw CB4 and Fire in the Sky at the Drive-In. I can't guarantee they were on the same night, but I like to think that they were. I just looked it up and they came out on the same day, so I guess it's pretty likely, actually. Oh yeah, drive-ins! Selena with Fast and the Furious was the fucking greatest!
21) Favorite Phil Karlson film?
Never seen any.
22) Favorite “social problem” picture?
I don't know if I understand what that means enough to answer.
23) Your favorite Harryhausen film/monster?
Mysterious Island, I guess.
24) What was the first movie you saw with your significant other?
Dazed and Confused.
25) John Payne or Ronald Reagan?
Never seen either in anything.
26) Movie you feel a certain pressure or obligation to see that you have not yet actually seen.
For some reason, Southland Tales seems to come up in conversation an awful lot. I'd see it if it wasn't so fucking long.
27) Favorite “psychedelic” movie.
Transformers.
28) Thelma Ritter or Eve Arden?
I don't know.
29) Favorite iconic shot or image from a film?
Bratz.
30) What is the movie that inspired the most memorable argument you ever had about a movie?
I can't think of a specific movie, but I will say that my friend Anthony is the most fun to yell at when he doesn't agree with me.
31) Raquel Torres or Lupe Velez?
Don't know.
32) Favorite adaptation of Shakespeare to a film?
Tromeo & Juliet or 10 Things I Hate About You.
33) Andy Warhol’s Frankenstein (in 3D)-- yes or no?
Definitely.
34) Favorite movie rating?
10.0
35) Olivia Barash or Joyce Hyser?
Joyce Hyser. Just One of the Guys is awesome.
36) What was the movie that convinced you your favorite movie genre was your favorite movie genre?
If my favorite genre is horror, then I'm pretty sure it's Zombie.
37) Favorite Blake Edwards movie?
I've seen 10, and it was ok. And I saw Breakfast at Tiffany's a long time ago, and don't remember it.
