Movie Review: Birdemic: Shock and Terror
Birdemic: Shock and Terror (2010, James Nguyen) - 7.5
A computer engineer meets a fashion model, and they start dating just as the Earth comes under attack by birds driven crazy by global warming in this environmentally conscious thriller. When warranted, I will defend unconventional acting (Tommy Wiseau’s style, for instance, is way too insane to be simplified as “bad”), but the acting in Birdemic is actually pretty terrible. It might even be as bad as the cg birds, which look truly appalling. The movie is not especially well directed, either, and has some pacing issues. But the dialogue is hilarious, at least, and it’s generally very entertaining. So I still really liked it. At one point, the characters walk out of a movie theater, and one of them says, “Man, that was a good movie. An Inconvenient Truth.” And I can’t deny that when this one ended, I came out of it thinking, “Man, that was a good movie. Birdemic: Shock and Terror.”
