SeiJune Suzuki

Seijun Suzuki was a director I had heard of, but didn't know a lot about. So he was a perfect choice to devote a month of movie-watching to. Instead, I only watched four of his films. I started with Branded to Kill and Tokyo Drifter, his two most experimental films, and surely the absolute worst films I could possibly use as an introduction to his career. I didn't dislike them, but I wasn't ready for them. They were baffling to me. I had never seen films before that could be so intriguing, without being the least bit engrossing. I had a better time with Youth of the Beast, though my mind still wandered a bit, and then Story of a Prostitute was visually pleasing, but not really my kind of movie. So it wasn't a very successful month. I'm still curious about his other 80 or whatever movies, though, so maybe next SeiJune I'll give him another try.

Ranked:
1. Youth of the Beast (1963)
2. Tokyo Drifter (1966)
3. Story of a Prostitute (1965)
4. Branded to Kill (1967)
